A bowl of dead food: Today’s trend!

The most prosperous and non ending market and business today is food industry.Tomorrow it will be the same or flourished more .Health and medicine industrial growth is directly proportionate to the food industry.Does that mean the food technology creating need for medicine in society ?Food industry creating more patients or customer for medicine giants.Yes to very extent it is true unfortunately.

Food trends and health facts are the peak topics of many research papers.

Take an example of so called healthy food supplement or food.

Corn Flakes,Oats,CHOCOS etc.

These food are exclusively considered as healthy and are practiced almost every day in large quantity by majority  for every member in family.Yes children too, in fact they are the target audience in all advertisement.

These food are prepared from the extreme heat and pressure for drying the corn , rice, oat etc. This process causes dehydration (loosing natural water) and loss of almost all natural vitamins making it just a lifeless roughage. This is the reason why they need to fortify these flakes with iron, calcium and vitamins.These are synthetic vitamins and minerals so may not be absorbed by body as natural vitamins .This is weird that you first make the food nutrition less and lifeless and then add artificial nutrients in it costing it more than the original grains. Plus we also pay for the packaging advertising , models, actors and other marketing, selling cost of the manufactures company.According to the Ayurveda diet principles such overheated and dry food if consumed frequently can increase the Vata dosha in body causing malnutrition.Reducing the weight by such malnutrition never favor overall health.Added synthetic colors, flavors and extra salt is highly hazardous for health.

In some brands the dried and preserved vegetables are added . Don’t you think it is funny to eat almost mummified vegetables as healthy food. What you eat is what you are. Eating this lifeless, dried you are sure going to be malnourished . It is as simple guys !

Avoiding these ready made ,one can easily use fresh Bajra, jawar, Red Rice, millet(Maka, Jwari Bajari Nagali Rajgira Sali lahi chivda) Lahis (flakes) which are made by traditional instant heating and in which many unhealthy processes are excluded like additional pressure , dehydration and adding synthetics,salt,sugar etc. These traditional flakes are easily available in market. Its always better to take these in less quantity and not very frequent.Shifting to the fresh local , traditional food and dishes is always favorable for health.

Some more facts to think over

  • The Glycemic index of Oat is high which increase the risk of raised Blood sugar, many diabetic patients still consume the Oat regularly
  • Added salt and sugar further increase the risk of hypertension and obesity ironically one study says.
  • Intestinal blockage – eating too much oatmeal that is under cooked or raw may create an intestinal blockage and severe constipation
  • Impaired digestion – oatmeal contains Phytic acid. Phytates chelate and make important nutrients unabsorbable by intestines. It mostly applies to calcium, magnesium, zinc and iron, however, other nutrients are affected long term as well
  • Adding milk and fruits while consuming them make them incompatible food according to Ayurveda which further causes many diseases like hyper acidity, impaired absorption, skin disorders and many more .
  • Insufficient nutrition may causes many metabolic disorders of bones, joints and even hormone imbalance.

Once in while when no good option , in travel or in unavoidable situations only , otherwise stop buying these guys !Your grocery bill, Your shopping cart and your cupboards will be happy to miss them too.

    One querry pl.
    We indians too hv tradition of sun dried food..

    Veggies in rajasthan i believe are sundried fr year long use.
    Even in khandesh my mom in law says they used to dry corriander or fenugreek .

    Fishes r sundried

    Whats d difference bet these n above mentoned food items then?..just to increase my knowledge no offense made

    1. अतिशय रास्त आणि महत्वाचा प्रश्न विचारलात आपण.मूळ लेखात हा मुद्दा लिहायचा राहून गेला होता. आपल्या प्रश्नाच्या निमित्ताने मांडला जाईल.
      आपल्या कडे वाळवण,बेगमी चे पदार्थ,सांडगे वड्या कुरडया पापड लोणची हे पदार्थ देखील तसे पहिले तर रेडी तो ईट प्रकारातच मोडतात.मग फक्त विरोध वरील पदार्थानाच का. मुळात पहिली गोष्ट विरोध नाही. ताजे अन्न न खाता खूप मात्रेत रोज खाण्याला थोडी हरकत असते,ती पण तुमची तब्येत हरकत घेते.
      मुखयतः वाळवणाचे पदार्थ, लोणची हे बनवण्या मागचा उद्देश हा थोडा असा असायचा कि जेंव्हा दुष्काळ, अतिवृष्ट्टी दळवळणाची अपुरी सोय यामुळे भाज्या मुबलक नसतील,अचानक पाहुणे घरी आले,घरी कार्य असेल तर वेळेवर गृहिणीला हे पदार्थ मदतीला धावून येत.त्या काळी बिग बास्केट डॉट कॉम नव्हते किंवा होम डिलिव्हरी देणारे हॉटेल हि.
      त्यामुळे हे पदार्थ अशाच वेळी फडताळातील लख्ख घासलेल्या पितळी डब्यांतून ताटात डोकावायचे.
      अजून एक खूप महत्वाचा मुद्दा. हे पदार्थ करताना ते टिकावे म्हणून त्यात सैंधव,तेल, मसाल्याचे काही पदार्थ,लिंबाचा रस, गुळाचा अथवा साखरेचा पाक असे साधे सोपे सरळ मार्ग आपण वापरतो.वेगवेगळे रसायने, रंग, चव यांचा वापर निश्चितच होत नाही.त्यामुळे अशा पदार्थांपासून होणारे शरीरावरील परिणाम अर्थातच तुलनेने कमी होतात.तरीही व्हिटॅमिन c आहे म्हणून आपण कैरीचे लोणचे वाटीत घेऊन नाही खात अथवा रोज खाल्ले तर बाधणारच.तसेच पापड,वाळवलेल्या भाज्या,खारवलेले मासे इत्यादींचे होय.
      वाळवलेल्या भाज्या खाणे तर निश्चित योग्य नाही. अशा भाज्यांचा मुख्यतः वरणात, किंवा इतर व्यंजनात वरून काही चमचे इतक्या प्रमाणातच उपयोग ग्राह्य. कसुरी मेथी ची भाजी नाही करत. इतर व्यंजनात ती चिमूटभर तिच्या अरोमा साठी वापरतात.तीही कधीतरीच वापरली तर योग्य.
      उन्हात वाळवलेले वाळवण हि स्लो हीट किंवा मंद उष्णता देण्याचे चे किती आदर्श उदाहरण आहे. अतिशय उच्च तापमानात एकदम वाळवलेले पदार्थ पोषणमूल्ये रहित होणारच.याउलट उन्हामध्ये ज्याला सूर्यताप असे म्हणतात ,वाळवलेले पदार्थ तुलनेने पोषणमूल्ये राखून असतात.

    2. Naturally dried foods with solar power is harmless. More so, no addictives or chemical preservatory added except salt, wherever it is required. The MNCs are hand in glove with pharma industry to keep u sick for their recurring income! Beware.

  3. It is very devastating to read and understand what is happening today? What to eat and what not, healthy non healthy …it’s sad..ironically nothing at all is safe.
    I’m visiting hospital frequently as I’m getting my mother treated for breast cancer. I see number of cancer patients increasing like cats and dogs..adulterated processed food, polluted air and what not. Just Plane simple confusion.

    Would like to share my own experience ,rather bad experience about these ready to eat items.

    I was sailing on a ship with multinational crew, since I was the only Indian, I was provided with many tasty menues but of *Ready to eat type* .

    Since am vegetarian, only option was these items only.

    Because of this I had problem of *Abscess* on my right leg, and after incession & drain treatment, I had to come home as medically unfit.

    After that I joined another ship in 10 days, on that ship too I had again problem of Abscess, on left leg , but could manage to self cure it with home remedy & heating with wet cloth n all.

    Later on my Family Doctor immediately diagnosed these issues due to preservatives.

    Later on I joined only ships with full indian staff and cook.

    सांगण्याचं तात्पर्य एवढंच कि, ‘रेडी टू ईट’ items आणि त्यातल्या preservatives मुळे त्वचेचे विकार होऊ शकतात, हा माझा स्वानुभव आहे.
    नंतर परत तासाला त्रास कधीच झाला नाही, so am again sure that its credit goes to preservatives only !.

Hi,lekh khup chan ahe ani khup mahatvachi mahiti ahe. yachashi sambandhit as nahi pan mla ek vicharaychay ki khup working women adlya divshi bhaji chirun,kanik bhijvun thevtat fridge madhe.dusarya divshichi tyari mhanun. he kitpat barobar ahe?me he nehmich talate pan kadhi kadhi work load mule ase karaves watate.Mla ya baddal janun ghyayla awdel.
